I am still learning Photoshop, and having some trouble uploading and saving images, but I wanted to make sure to get this week's assignment in on time.  Please see below the work I managed to complete.  (No image from MOCA).

Warhol Silkscreen -

MOCA Critique -

I am fascinated by Dave Acton's 'Digital Emulation of Traditional Media."  I feel his (re)imagining of John Singer Sargent's portraiture poses some very interesting questions.  I enjoy theorizing about post-millennial societies in which digital media has completely replaced traditional art-making, but I believe this is impossible.  Digital art is predicated on the genius of traditional artistic media and techniques, and neither material can completely replace the other.  Contemporary art must have a historical awareness, and should extend the province of its antecedents - not perform an ahistorical rupture.

  1. Can you post a piece by Dave Acton? Would love to see his reinterpretation of Sargent...

The Silkscreen look starts by taking an image and choosing Image>adjustments>threshold... dial in the amount of light vs dark, then go from there...

  2. Hi Professor Nevins,
Thank you for your comment, and advice. I was unable to download the Dave Acton pieces, but I will email you the web file tonight. I am still having trouble with Photoshop, and am planning on coming to office hours this week.
