DROPLET FLOWER

This was the original image of the flower.....

I thought this was pretty cool from the original flower, it almost looks like water droplets. I played with a couple of images, this was my favorite one.

Sam Bahreini

This work is called "Adam's Rib who identifies himself with the past, a self thought computer graphic artist with a painting, sculpting, and music background. His paintings in my opinion are very mysterious in color and meaning.

He says that his approach to art has a style that no one has attempted before and that his medium of choice is Photoshop.

visit to MOCA

I was searching through the artists on the MOCA and I stumbled across the work done by artist Dan McCormack. It seems that he works mainly with nudes. He manipulates the images in Photoshop, giving them a very unique look. This image stood out in particular due to the resemblance to 1970's album covers from folk and rock bands. His bio also states that his work in the field has lead him to be the head of the photography department at Marist College in New York.

Andy Warhol, I need more cowbell

Here is my attempt to create an Andy Warhol inspired piece of art. I chose Christopher Walken because, well because he is amazing. I hope this came out ok. I found it a bit confusing using Photoshop and watching the tutorials that show an older version of Photoshop but I feel I did ok.

Venice

Peter Mclane says she starts out with a white background and leaves the work to the stylus. I love that he added a touch of his first love to the piece by adding a violin.

Peter McLane

Peter McLane is a French artist from Chamonix, France. He developed a passion for digital art in the late 1980’s. He says his work simply comes from his imagination. He only uses a stylus and Wacom Tablet. He starts with a blank screen and works his magic.

In this piece titled Navajo's Land, he blends many images to tell a story. He pulls in many aspects from New York City and layer them together.

Another one of his images that caught my eye is Et Dieu Créa la Femme, translated into english is And God Created Woman.

Michael Murray

Michael Murray

Michael Murray’s art is both bespoke and contemporary art. He uses photography with Photoshop and 3DStudio Max to create many of his pieces. He has recently been working on introducing installations and sculptures into his designs. Michael resides in Glasgow, Scotland. His art pieces can be found way beyond his borders of Scotland in the UK, the U.S, Europe and Australia, in many offices, homes, restaurants and hotels.

I particularly like the way he blends and places colors in his art pieces, similar to the example of his work below. He also has a way of placing unexpected items in his pieces, like the Record in the sky and foot prints on the fence.

In my visit to MOCA I liked this piece by Charles Csuri who is recognized as one of the great teachers, researchers and pioneers of computer art. In the era of the punch-card computer Charles Csuri turned from a successful career as a modernist painter to the improbable potential of digital art. His work has influenced such fields as flight simulation, magnetic resonance imaging, game design, computer graphics and more. He translates his work into pixels or his brush marks and works back and forth altering the relationships between objects, colors and textures in a world space. Here are 2pieces of his works of art.

A Hawaiian Sunset Wave

Hi My name is Tim. I choose this picture as it reminds me of a sunset wave. The colors of this picture are eye catching almost like the real thing.

A word about fotothing.com

Hi Class,

I realize that I still had referenced fotothing in the rubric or criteria, week to week, as one of the tasks to set up this week... It has worked out better to post all of your creative work here on the blog... everyone gets to see it that way and I am better able to comment.  Create one post and then put your 6 - 8 variations all in the one post.  Broadband is so good these days that the blog will not slow down as it might have in the past...

To see an image larger that is posted, just click on it and it opens a new window with a larger view... when you put all of your images in one post, then I can click from one to the next at that large size...

Remember to check out past blogs, linked from the syllabus to see what others have done in the past.

interesting artist

Browsing the MOCA I came across this image that really stood out to me. The above image is titled "Legs" by the artist Andrea Bonaventura. Andrea uses photo manipulation which I assume is utilizing Photoshop to get the desired outcome. I found her work striking for the fact that it has a very graphic look to it while not looking like it was manipulated too much. It has more of a screen print or graphic design look to it. I am more of a fan of art work that is done by hand so knowing that this art piece was done with a more modern take is surprising.

p.s. my fotolink name is jtbeeler.

hello there

Hello everyone,

My name is John. I am about to start my senior year here at Albertus Magnus. I am both looking forward to this course as well as dreading it. I am an art lover. I attended Paier College of art for 2 years, and was even a tattoo artist for a number of years. This is some of my art background. What makes me dread this class is the fact that I am not a tech savvy person. I have already have had difficulty downloading Photoshop, and I am pretty sure I posted my original blog as a comment rather than a blog post. I hope to ease into the class without too much struggle. anyway that my story so far.

David Badgley

David Badgley is an artist that has found the use of virtual painting on the computer, an outlet to truly inspire his art creations. David believes that there is no label for his type of art, but believes it to be essential. He studied formally with some fine artists in the 70s and 80s to develop his current style of art.
David combines many elements into his creations taking into effect the external and internal worlds he is creating, as well as the spirituality that he believes to exist within. He then combines many colors and textures to enhance his art. I reviewed many of David’s creations through a search on google, but one particular piece stands out to me. A digital creation David created of musician David Ervin in 2006.

Welcome to Introduction to Computer Art Class

Welcome to Introduction to Computer Art  I have been teaching Digital Photography I and II and The Museum Experience, Two Dimensional Design and Graphic Design I and II  in an online format for the past 10 years.... this is the 9th time I am offering Introduction to Computer Art in this online format as well...  The class revolves around creating a portfolio of images.  Your grade will be based on a combination of the portfolio you create and your participation in supporting this online learning experience and of each other. Class runs from March 21 - May 14th, 2016 .

If you wonder if you need to be a “geek” in order to succeed in this class, don’t worry.  I have designed it to be taken by non-artist-non-computer students.  The main issue is to have a good working computer with a high speed broadband connection and the willingness to dig in and have some fun.

The first week will be about getting up to speed in creating your accounts and getting your software image editing program working.

I don't use eLearning for my online classes as it is somewhat clunky in handling visual portfolios and blogging.   I host the syllabus on my website, jnevins.com.  Take a look around there to look at my teaching philosophy, syllabi, portfolios of my own work, tutorials and more...

Here is a link to the syllabus for this class: http://jnevins.com/introductiontocomputerart.htm

With my grandson, Kieran, watching the transit of Venus in front of the sun, live on Slooh.com

There you will find links to each project and the class blog.  Each project is described in detail and I have created videos to accompany each project to take you through it step by step.  Pause them as you go along and replay as many times as you need to. Everything you need for this class is linked from the upper right hand side of the blog.  All work you create will be posted here on this blog. Plan on doing 6 variations at a minimum for each project. (Check rubric linked in upper right hand side of this blog)

Important!.... click on the link in the email I will have blogger send you it will be from Jerry (me)...  There are instruction on creating an account at blogger and joining the class blog... you don't need to create your own blog... just join the class one.. All of your work will be posted here.  I respond to each and every post here on the blog under the comment link under each post.

Download and install your image editing program... Adobe gives you a full month free from http://Adobe.com/downloads  You can download Photoshop CC first then follow up with a new download of Photoshop Elements as that is expiring and get a full 8 weeks of use for free...  All other software you’ll need is also free.  Details are in the syllabus. All of the tools and procedures are there that I demonstrate in the videos.

I want you to have fun with this class and not get hung up on any of the technical stuff...  Once you get rolling, you'll see it is fun and very engaging...

Don't hesitate to email me anytime and I will get right back to you.  You can always call me at home if you are stuck!  Come see me during office hours at Albertus.  I am in 203 Aquinas Hall and my office hours are MW 3:45 - 5:15 and TTH 4:15 - 5:15.  I am happy to help you get going on any project or just come by to say hi!

Looking forward to working with you over the next 8 weeks!
